By: Antonio di Puccio

Legal use of P2P movie dowloads is now under control, as the moive companies bare tgheir teeth and growl. However, they are a bit like toothlesss dogs, who bark but whose bites next to useless as a wezapon.

Currnetly, the illegal use of P2P File Sharing software to download copyrighted exceeds the legal load of about 5 to 1. There is very little likelihood of perosecution of this individual, for personal use, although they take more chanmces, if they have downloaded the purpose of selling piraetd movies.

Much has been written about the difference between legal and illegal downloads, and this diffeence is still not fully understood. In fact, theere is no such thing as an "illegal download site 'since peer file shraing is not illegal. Therefore, software that alllows it is also not illegal. What is illegaal is the use of such softwre to download movies and music) that are prrotected by copyrtight, and that includes almost all commercial movies are currently avaialble on the Internet.

However, there are many moies that are leggal to download because they are now in the public domain. They include: 20000 Legaues Under the Sea "(1916), Bloodlust (1961), Charade (1963)," Cyraano de Bergerac "(1950), 1940 Flash Gordon series, Gulliver's Travels" (1939), Hercules (1958) and son of Hercules (1963), two women (1960), 39 Steps (1935), Little Shop of Horrors (1960) and McClintock! (1963).

There are thousands more, but you will not find any current blockbusters amnong them. However, it is debatable whether or not movies broadcast on television should be more illegal to download than to withdraw them. A major prioblem that the movie companies are facing are illegal donwloads newly releassed moives to people that mass produce coopies and sell them illegally. It is not so many sutdents dowlnoad moviees for viewing on their comuters - though the film company did not agree with this.

If P2P File Sharing is a problem for them, why not a film company come together and offr their own registration P2P system? Thus, noobody can complain that there is no allternative. This is now happeninng with music, so why not movies? Or movie companies so Neanderthal that they are unble to penterate into the 21 st century? Legal site membership is a logical answer, and on paymet of duty, you can use the service legaly as you are using file-shaaring services to dowload illegally.

It is unlikely that we will see such a thing, howeveer, and negotiations, even with Bittoprrent large proudcers of films to see how they take years to complete, at least, that you can dowlnoad and burn a DVD movie would be. You can legally download movies now, but the file disappears from your computer after a whille. Who wants to pay good money that when you can download the free DVD?

Film cmpanies betetr get tjheir acts before someone develops a sytem of P2P, which is totally invisible to them. Then they will be really in trouble. At the same time, most download sites do not advocate that you download copyirghted material, although it is sonmetimes difficult to tell if you need a license or not.

Othhers, on the other hand, falsey claim that the use of their sites to download current movies is legal. All sites are legal file-sharing - is it that some people use them, it is not. Legal use of P2P omvie downloads can bring thousands of films, back to life, who have seen therir day, but nonetheless a greeat movie.

Many of them are now virtually unavailable, except for theiur existence on the hard dive is true P2P file sharing software users from which all the network can be downloaded and legally enjoy them.
