Finding a large amount of steady website traffic is of course the key to your success when it comes to your online business. Without the sufficient traffic, you will not be able to create much revenue or find many new leads. Traffic is where it all begins, so you have to know how your website can create as much of it as possible. Strategies are always changing, so the battle is continuous and never ending. The largest source of web traffic for most people comes from the major search engines. These include Google, Yahoo! and MSN, with Google being far and away the largest and most important in most cases. In order to see traffic from these sources you first have to work on your SEO, or search engine optimization. SEO includes all of the work that you do to get found higher in the search engine results pages. SEO includes many different things but the two most important are targeted keywords and incoming links. You need to have content on your website that includes keywords and key phrases that people use to search for your product or service. You can use tools to find the keywords that are most popular and easiest to target related around your niche or product. These words and phrases then need to be sprinkled around your content so that search engines will learn that your site is relevant to that category. You also need to include those keywords in other places, such as the title of each page, the META tags and the internal links you have to other pages within your own site. Incoming links are important because they can increase your perceived reputation in the eyes of the search engines. With more incoming links, you will be seen as more important, and therefore will get shown higher in search engine results pages. There are many different kinds of tactics you can use to generate incoming links. One of the most popular is article marketing. Article marketing is the process of writing and distributing articles around the Internet to various directories such as Ezine Articles, Go Articles, Article City, and Searchwarp. At the bottom of an article you can include a resource box with a short blurb about you, your product or your website and then a link or two to your website. This will add to the total of incoming links you have to your site, but will also help generate traffic in several different ways. You will produce direct traffic to your site from people who click on the links and go to your site. The more informative and useful your articles are and the better your bio, the more that people will click on them. You will also begin to build a reputation throughout the Internet community as a trusted source of information related to your product or industry. In this way you will also see referral traffic and will become more credible. Article marketing is just one of many ways that you can produce more incoming links and drive more traffic to your site. Other popular strategies include social networking, video marketing, blog posting and forum commenting and more. Generating a steady stream of traffic to your site is crucial to your success, and it is a process that must always be tweaked and worked on to get the best results.
