Push Marketing Verses Pull Marketing Part Two

There are times when you have to implement push or pull marketing techniques and strategies, knowing which method to use is essential for a positive and successful online business out come.

Pull marketing is often described as the fisherman marketing technique because its modus operandi is centered on being able to lure the prospects into channels that will expose them to the merchants business message. Publishing good content for example will over time attract internet users to the website of the merchant.

This is a great illustration of pull marketing at work. Distributing highly valuable viral marketing products for free is also another effective example of pull marketing. Instead of pushing your product in front of the prospects, you will be attracting the said prospects to take a look at your product.

Pull marketing is permission-dependent. You will have to ask, directly or indirectly, for the permission of your prospects before you can attempt to present your product or service. Unlike push marketing where the product is forcefully promoted, pull marketing is never aggressive. The benefits that can be derived from pull marketing are quite obvious. Without having to be aggressive, the merchant will be able to air his business message for all the world to know. Pull marketing is a gentler and friendlier way to win leads, and in effect, to win customers.

However, pull marketing is not without its cons. Pull marketing will produce slower results given the methodical pace demanded by its execution. With pull marketing, merchants are required not to rush. Instead, they are asked to focus on lead generation instead of winning direct sales. This may require a longer gestation period before profits can be realized.

Pull marketing is paraphernalia-dependent. Your campaign will only be as strong as your campaign materials will allow. Good content, good viral products and good baits are necessary to ensure that pull marketing will produce favorable results. Pull marketing may produce fewer results.

Since pull marketing is permission dependent, those who do not give their permission may be lost forever. The question remains as to which marketing technique you should choose to implement, will it be push or pull marketing? To keep things simple, there will be situations when you should use push marketing, and there are situations when you should use pull marketing. For example, you are about to introduce your product for the very first time and your online business is just starting out. You can not possibly expect people to be familiar with your product or your enterprise and you have yet to establish a name for yourself, enough to attract some powerful JV partners.

In cases like this, you will have to take the risk and use push marketing to get the word out about your product and have to make people know about the product on a persistent basis so that they will remember. If you have released some products before, and you are about to release a big ticket package, then pull marketing will be a better option.

In such a case, the prospects trust is a very integral factor and the best way to win such is by implementing non aggressive, non intrusive techniques that will initially try to win their attention and eventually their consideration.
